About the Club

Club Bio

Airenjuku Dojo (Airenjuku means Small School of Harmonious Practice) has a long history, beginning as Kanetsuka sensei’s Saturday practice within the BAF at Albany Street dojo in the late 1970s.

Under Tom and Maria Helsby it was renamed Airenjuku in the late 1980s and moved to SOAS with Chris Reid and Sue Smith in 1989 when the Albany Street dojo was redeveloped. The club provides a basic grounding in Aikido, both empty hand and weapons, to students and others and also somewhere to train for those who already practice Aikido with other organisations from other countries. We were resident at the School of Oriental and African Studies in Bloomsbury for over 30 years, but since Covid we are now located in Killick Street, 5 min from Kings Cross.

First class free
£10 per class or £36 per month
£5 concessions
Membership UKA standard: £35 per year. £23 for concessions.
Payable by end of third class.

On street parking after 6.30 pm

Minimum age of 18 years old

Do you have changing facilities?

Male, Female and Disabled changing. Disabled access probably not possible as the lift doesn’t seem to function. There are showers in male and female changing but as we have to be out of the building on dot of 9, there is not really time to use them after class.
