About the Club

Club Bio

We practice in Swanage, Dorset in a small dojo with a distant view of the sea.

The name of our club honours the memory and influence of Shihan Peter Brady whose group was called MyoShinJuku. Shihan Brady requested a name that meant open minded and that is one reading of the characters. A more obvious reading of the first two characters is bright spirit and that is how I remember him. The name MyoShinJuku stays with Sensei Cliff Price. To give our club its own identity we have changed the third character. The character, juku, means school or training. We have substituted this with kai, meaning club.

Instructors

Rebecca Saville, 5th dan, fukushidoin

There are two main influences on my Aikido.  My sensei, Shihan Peter Brady was a long term student of Chiba Sensei and this was clearly the dominant influence in his Aikido.

I trained at Hombu dojo (Aikido world headquarters inTokyo) from 1990 to 1992, attending classes given by the son and grandson of the founder (Kisshomaru and Mitsuteru Ueshiba).  Since my return to Europe I have attended summer schools and other classes given by Hombu instructors every year.

I started Aikido training in 1978 as a university student.  I was awarded shodan (black belt) in 1991 while training at Hombu.  I was awarded 5th dan by Shihan Peter Brady in 2018.
